HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The funeral for former Huntsville City Councilwoman Sandra Moon is tentatively set for Saturday, April 20.

Moon passed away on Apr 9 due to complications from pancreatic cancer.  She served on the city council from 1998 to 2010.

Her family says they plan to have a public memorial and funeral service at Saint Stephens Episcopal Church on Whitesburg Dr.

They said they decided to schedule the funeral on the 20th in order to give friends in Europe and other parts of the world time to get to Huntsville.

The Community Foundation of Huntsville-Madison County has set up the Sandra Moon Memorial Fund.  Donations to the fund will never be spent, only the income the fund generates.  The money generated will go to critical community needs.

“We are establishing the Sandra Moon Memorial Fund in order to generate money to address critical community needs. Sandra cared deeply about this community. It was to her, as it is to so many, her adopted hometown. She worked to make it better in many, many ways. This fund will carry those efforts forward,” stated Bob Ludwig, Chairman of the Community Foundation board.

Donations can be mailed to The Community Foundation of Huntsville-Madison County P.O. Box 332 Huntsville, Alabama 35801.

Donations can also be dropped off at the chamber of commerce at 225 Church St.
