MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Falkville Elementary students had a fun field trip on Tuesday.  Third grade students visited Vulcan Materials.

The students got hands-on experience with rocks and minerals.  The students had the opportunity to see the plant in motion, including the machines breaking the rocks.

Vulcan employees worked side-by-side with the kids, helping them search and discover the fossils.

"The kids love it because it's real life experience and bringing the classroom outside, and they get to go back and forth and look for different fossils, and they let them take some of them home, and then they can go home and share it with their families and let their families know what they've learned," said Lori Kyker, a Falkville Elementary teacher.

The main lesson kids learned is that earth materials provide many of the resources humans use.
