COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Colbert County commissioners have approved a construction contract that will begin the process of installing 21 storm shelters across the county.

In 2013, commissioners plan to install seven shelters, costing the county nearly four hundred thousand dollars.

The majority of the funds being used to install the shelters are coming from a federal emergency management grant totaling just over two million dollars.

The community storm shelters will hold between fifty and one-hundred people.
