GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A hiker who went missing back in December inside the Lake Guntersville State Park has been sentenced to a lifetime ban from the park, according to court documents.

WHNT News 19 reported back on December 20, 2012 that Sachin Sanjay Kapoor, 24 of Huntsville, was missing inside the park.  Rangers said he left his family’s rented chalet and did not return.  The family contacted rangers concerned about Kapoor and the park mounted a large search for him.

Kapoor returned the next day, and rangers say Kapoor told family members he had been on a spiritual quest.  Kapoor was later charged with camping in an unauthorized area of the park.

According to court documents, Kapoor entered a guilty plea Thursday in Marshall County District Court.  Judge Mitch Floyd sentenced him to a lifetime ban from the park and a fine of $500 plus court costs.
