HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- The University of Alabama President Judy Bonner has a candidate in mind to serve as the Athletics Director for the Crimson Tide. Bonner plans to recommend Bill Battle to replace Mal Moore. Battle is a former coach at The University of Tennessee and also has Alabama ties. Bonner says she is confident that Bill Battle is the right person to serve as UA Athletics Director. The Huntsville Times/ columnist Mark McCarter has a positive reaction to the recommendation and says Battle would be a great hire.

"He has roots there in Alabama, he played at Alabama, he played alongside Mal Moore and for Coach Bryant," said McCarter. "He did a nice job as a head coach at Tennessee and then he has become this ultra successful business man with collegiate sports licensing."

It's not a secret that most Alabama fans aren't too keen on Rocky Top. However, McCarter sas that won't be an issue since Mal Moore is on board. "When Mal gives that endorsement, I think that certainly will help him and then everyone will forget about those misspent years at Tennessee," McCarter said with a joking smile.

Mal Moore leaves the UA Athletics Department with a very strong record. According to McCarter, Bill Battle will be able to step up to the plate and follow Moore's footsteps.

"They are pretty big shoes to fill," he said. "Mal made a great hire there with Coach Saban and Battle is going to have some challenges there maybe with some of the other sports, but I don't think he can't handle it."

Despite the sudden announcement of Moore stepping down from his position, McCarter said Battle will keep the program on the right track.

"It won't miss a beat."
