HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Investigators are looking into the cause of an overnight apartment fire.

The fire happened around 11:30 p.m. at Huntsville Summit Apartments on Walker Avenue. 6 fire trucks and several ambulances responded.

The sprinkler system eventually put out the fire, but not before three people were overcome with smoke. They were taken to Huntsville Hospital. Their injuries range from minor to serious.

One apartment unit was damaged, and 15 others had to be evacuated. The American Red Cross assisted those residents.  All residents, with the exception of the apartment where the fire originated, have been allowed to return.
