Huntsville, Ala. (WHNT) - Former Alabama defensive lineman Quinton Dial made his way to Madison Square Mall Sunday to sign autographs and take pictures with some of his adoring fans.

He's also recovering from surgery he had on his big toe to repair torn cartilage and ligaments.  He chose to have the surgery now so it would least affect playing time in the NFL.

Those dreams of playing on Sundays have been important to Dial.  He wants to keep playing football not just because he loves the sport, but because of an even stronger love.

"My mom passed away back in 2000 in December to a house fire," said Dial.  "From then on, I've been playing football for her and always told her I'd go far in life, so I chose this path in football.  To hear my name called, it would be a great feeling, knowing my Mom is looking down on me, I'm doing this for her."
