FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - A father and his two small children were injured during an early morning fire, but it’s that father's heroic actions that may have saved all three of them.

Since an early morning phone call, Tuesday has been a blur for Vonda Green and her family.

It was a call to tell the grandmother that her son Shane and his two children were all injured in a house fire on Enterprise Street.

“They say he sacrificed himself to save the babies,” said Green, “He`s in the worst shape.”

Shane green, two year old Trinity and six year old Devin were sleeping in a front bedroom when the fire broke out.

Vonda says the father of two jumped into action, getting his children outside the home and to safety.

“He physically with his right hand I guess knocked the window out, because it cut his right hand nearly off.”

Family members say six year old Devin was burned and cut, while two year old Trinity is being treated for smoke inhalation; both are at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

After surgery on his hand, Shane Green was transported to the UAB Burn Center for treatment.

Green says this all a bit overwhelming, “I`m crazy, but God is with us, thank goodness God is on our side. We have prayers going everywhere.”

Vonda Green says this morning could have very well turned out tragic if it wasn`t for the heroic actions of her Shane.

Because of the injuries during the fire, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist Florence Fire Investigators.

A preliminary cause has not been determined at this time.
