Pope Benedict XVI

VATICAN CITY, Italy — Pope Benedict XVI gave his final Sunday blessing.

He addressed the crowd of thousands in St. Peter’s Square that he’ll be taking up a life of prayer.

Earlier this month, he announced his resignation which is to take place February 28, 2013.

Rumors around the reason for the resignation include the cover up of a gay conclave as well as financial improprieties within the Vatican.  The Vatican has denied these rumors.

Pope Benedict said he is stepping down due to weakness caused by aging.
