Lions Complete Sweep Of Thorobreds

Florence, Ala. – Jake Ward had three hits and accounted for four runs as the University of North Alabama baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Kentucky State with a 10-3 win Sunday at Mike Lane Field.

UNA, now 5-4 overall, outscored the Thorobreds 46-3 in the series and allowed just one earned run in 25 innings.
In Sunday’s win, UNA fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning but regained the lead in the bottom of the inning and never looked back.
Junior Cade Medley (1-1) got his first win at UNA, allowing two unearned runs and three hits in six innings of work. He walked four and struckout six. Drew Mobley allowed a run in the seventh inning and Jacob Westerhouse and Morgan McCarley each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
After Kentucky State got a run in the top of the first, Matthew Tittle delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the inning for UNA as he drove in Andrew Allmon and Josh Cyr. In the fourth, Ward delivered a run-scoring single and Will Dennis had an RBI-double to make it 4-1.
Kentucky State got another run in the fifth but UNA answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ward had an RBI-single in the inning and Josh Carpenter had a two-run single to push UNA’s lead to 7-2.  The Lions added two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth for the 10-3 win. Drew Humphrey doubled in a run, then scored on a throwing error in the seventh. Dylan Boston doubled in UNA’s final run in the eighth.
UNA hosts Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday (Feb. 26) at 2 p.m. in a single game at Mike Lane Field as part of a seven-game homestand.
