LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Huntsville man in a recent animal starvation case.

Jose Fausto Albarron, 46, is charged with three counts of animal cruelty.  He is being held in the Limestone County Jail, and his bond is set at $2,250.

Deputies found the horses in a pasture on Ham Road last week.  One horse was dead and two others were emaciated.

The landlord, Emma Hardman, rents the land to Albarron.  She says she tried to get in touch with him several times but he didn’t return her calls.

Sheriff’s deputies brought a bale of hay to the pasture on Tuesday night.  It was the first hay the horses had seen in months.  They were then taken to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena for further care.
