Former Police Chief Hearing Set For This Week

SHEFFIELD, Ala. (WHNT) – Former Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray will get his chance to be heard Thursday morning when the Sheffield Civil Service Board convenes.

Greg Ray was fired by Sheffield Mayor Ian Sanford after an evaluation of the chiefs job performance.

Sanford said at the time of the firing that Chief Ray exhibited conduct that was detrimental to the police department.

Ray immediately appealed the firing, and at 9am Thursday morning his attorneys will present evidence of why Ray should be put back in his job.

Greg ray has been with the Sheffield Police Department since 1992 and served as Chief of Police since 2007.

Chief Ray has been on paid administrative leave since the firing.
