LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) –The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 are closed north of the I-565 interchange due to a wreck earlier this morning.  An 18-wheeler hit a road crew.

It happened around 5 a.m. in the northbound lane near mile marker 344, which is near the Browns Ferry Road exit.

Four people were injured in the wreck. Three of them were sent to Huntsville Hospital, and the other was sent to Decatur General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The northbound lanes of I-65 are closed.  The southbound lanes are open, but traffic is moving at reduced speeds. This could cause congestion for those traveling to work and school in Athens.

Please find an alternate route if you are traveling this way.  You can use Mooresville Road, to get to Highway 72, to then go towards Athens and get on I-65 north. Or, you can use Browns Ferry Road and pick up I-65 there.

If you’re coming out of Decatur, you can take Highway 31 and go up to Tanner, and take Browns Ferry Road over to I-65.
