HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Fran Fluhler started Manna House, a 501(c)3 public charity, seven years ago in her garage. Fran says her purpose was to collect food, clothing and personal hygiene items to help people in need.

"We opened the doors to the public just to try to meet a simple need and found out there was a much bigger need than we were aware," Fluhler said.

It has since grown into an organization that helps hundreds of people every week.

Fran may have started Manna House, but she refuses to take any credit.

"I don't want to be the face of Manna House. The face of Manna House is all the people who come here and work all during the week and when I tell them how it started then they give me the credit and credit goes to the Lord, not to me and I don't want to take one bit of glory for what he does," Fluhler said.

In fact, Fran has partnered with The Rock Family Worship Center and many others to reach as many people as possible and credits the success of Manna House to her volunteers.

"Everything at Manna House is volunteer, every person who you see that's got a smile on their face came here because they wanted to be here to help serve the community," Fluhler said.

One of those volunteers, Norma Colbath, nominated Fran for Pay It Forward.

"She gives her time, her money and herself," Colbath said.

Fran says Manna House has no special requirements.

"We're open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday nights from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and they don't need to do anything except just come get in the line and go through and pick out food for their family," Fluhler said.  "We have clothing, hygiene items, pet food, we just try to meet the needs of the community."

If you need help or would like to make a donation of any kind to Manna House, they  are located in the building just behind and between the Rock Family Worship Center and the Pet Emergency Clinic, just past Governors Drive on the access road off South Memorial Parkway. The phone number is (256) 653-7883.
