HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Late Monday night Alabama Governor Robert Bentley issued a statement following severe weather across much of the state spawning tornadoes and damage in south and central parts of the state.

“A powerful storm system continues to move through Alabama and has caused significant damage in several areas. First responders are doing a tremendous job helping people in areas impacted by the storms, and those efforts will continue.

“We are currently assessing damage in various communities, and we will use all available resources to help communities in any way we can. I want to encourage everyone to stay close to reliable sources of weather warnings as the severe weather threat continues for many areas tonight.

“I also want to offer my prayers for everyone impacted by these storms. We will work on the state level to do everything we can to help communities across the state. The people of Alabama are strong. We will recover together.”
