HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A mother charged with child abuse for allegedly leaving her three children locked in a bedroom on Eunice Street in October is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Police say the bedroom door was tied shut, and the children could not get to food or a bathroom. The children, ages 2, 3, and 5, were reported to be severely malnourished.

Norma Garcia’s preliminary hearing is set for 10:00 a.m. at the Madison County Courthouse.

Garcia’s boyfriend, Jose Vargas, was also charged. His hearing date has not yet been set.
