Athens Fire Department on scene of townhouse fire on Williamsburg Drive Saturday morning.

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – A fire of undetermined origin raced through a Williamsburg Drive townhouse Saturday morning. Athens firefighters say heavy smoke and flames were visible as they arrived on the scene just before 10 A.M. The lone resident managed to escape unharmed.

It took less than 30-minutes to extinguish the flames. Firefighters remained on the scene for another hour checking for hot spots and assisting with a fire inspector’s investigation into the cause of the blaze.

Fire damage was confined to the center unit of the 3-unit building, although the adjoining town homes did sustain smoke damage.
