Huntsville, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference announced its Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 9 on Tuesday, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Ronnie Mack earned the honor for the first time in his career.
The sophomore guard turned in a career performance on the road at Trevecca Nazarene in UAH's only contest of the week.
Sparking a 15-3 run that turned a game that was tied into a contest that UAH would control the rest of the way, Mack hit five straight 3-pointers in the early minutes of the second half en route to finishing with seven made treys – the most in the GSC yet this season. The Birmingham native finished with 23 points, and 21 came in the second period to help guide the team to an 80-66 victory.
With Saturday's strong showing, Mack currently ranks first in the league in 3-point field goal percentage as he is hitting his long-range attempts at a blistering 59.0 percent clip.
Mack and his teammates have the rest of this week off and will next return to action on Monday, Dec. 17, when Tennessee Temple visits for a 7 p.m. contest at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
