Recount Finished: Tommy Ragland Remains Madison County Probate Judge

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Tommy Ragland will keep his job as Madison County Probate Judge.  Moments ago, we learned he won the recount by 197 votes.

Election workers have been recounting votes since Monday morning at the Whitesburg Baptist Church Annex.

During the recount process, workers scanned ballots from each Madison County precinct into multiple machines.  The final count was announced at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday:

  • Tommy Ragland: 74,779 votes
  • Patty Demos: 74,582 votes

Ragland, a Democrat, had won the initial count by 120 votes, over Republican Patty Demos.  Ragland gained votes with provisional ballots counted, and in the recount.

The recount was supervised by a canvassing board consisting of Sheriff Blake Dorning, Circuit Clerk Jane Smith and Chief Clerk of Probate Patty Hanson.

Ragland was not involved in the recount.
