Marshall County Inmate Collapses In Court; Judge Performs CPR

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A judge jumped into action to save an inmate who collapsed in court Tuesday.

Franklin Gary Carter, 48, of Grant, was appearing before Judge Tim Riley for a hearing when Carter suddenly collapsed.  Sheriff Scott Walls said Judge Riley and deputies accompanying the inmate rushed to help Carter.

Judge Riley performed CPR on Carter until paramedics arrived. Carter was then taken to Huntsville Hospital by ambulance.

Sheriff Walls said the reason for the collapse is unknown at this time.

Carter was arrested August 7 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). His bond was set at $2,500.
