FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WHNT) —Former Alabama State Senator Lowell Barron is recovering after being involved in a tractor accident.  The accident happened Saturday afternoon in Fort Payne.

Barron’s son posted the following update to Facebook:  “Dad had a halo installed to stabilize fractured vertebrae in his neck this morning. He is in good condition, great sprits and should make a full recovery (4-6 months). He is thankful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.”

Barron was flown to Huntsville Hospital by helicopter Saturday after the accident.

Barron served Alabama’s 8th District, which includes Jackson County and parts of Madison and DeKalb counties, from 1983 until 2010.   Barron, a Democrat, was defeated by Republican Shadrack McGill in November of 2010.
