ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – We have a heartwarming update to a story we brought you Thursday on WHNT News 19 at 5:00 p.m.

Many of you watched the report on Ryan Kitchens, a 7-year-old in Athens who is battling medulloblastoma.  It’s an aggressive form of brain cancer that is spreading.

Kitchens doesn’t have much longer, and he wants to enjoy his final days.

The family has been through tremendous financial struggles while they helped Ryan battle his illness.  They also know they will have to deal with burial costs soon.

Viewers in the Tennessee Valley and beyond responded in a huge way to help Ryan and his family.  The family had hoped to raise $12,500 to cover burial costs.  Less than 24 hours after the story aired, the funds had topped $16,400 and were still going strong.  See the latest total here.  You can still make a donation if you wish.

You can also make a donation at any Wells Fargo Bank, to the Ryan Kitchens Donation Fund. If you don’t live near a Wells Fargo, you can mail it to this location:
