NEW ORLEANS, La. – Brian Downing, the Alabama man charged with sexual battery and obscenity in New Orleans, pleaded guilty Tuesday just as his trial was about to start.

The Times-Picayune reports Downing, 33, pleaded guilty to two obscenity charges.  He will have to serve two years in prison, but he won’t be required to register as a sex offender.

Downing is accused of rubbing his genitals in the face of a drunken LSU fan in January, after the BCS championship game.  The incident happened inside Krystal in the French Quarter and was caught on video, which went viral on the Internet.

Downing could have faced up to 10 years in prison if he was convicted on the sexual battery charge.
