DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – A Morgan County jury quickly found a man guilty of murder on Wednesday.

The jury took 30 minutes to convict Michael Clay in the January 2010 shooting death of Shawn Wydell Smith.

Smith, 36, was dating Clay’s former girlfriend at the time.  Smith was shot twice, once in the chest and again in the back of the head.

Clay’s former girlfriend, Latonya Swopes, told the court Monday that Clay attacked her and Smith as they arrived at her house on January 12, 2010.

Judge Glenn Thompson will sentence Clay at a later date.

The trial was in its third day.
