FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Florence Police have arrested a man for a recent break-in and attack on a woman at Summit Ridge Apartments.

Mitchell Blake Terry, 31, is charged with sexual assault, theft and burglary.  Terry lives in Lauderdale County.

Police announced the arrest at a news conference shortly after 3 p.m.  The attack on the young woman at Summit Ridge happened last week.  The victim is 18 years old.

There have been several invasions and attacks on young women this year.  Florence Police have not said if Terry is connected to those cases.

Other attacks were at Heathrow Apartments and in two homes near the UNA campus.

Detectives connected a burglary at the Heathrow Apartments last Friday to the sexual assault at the Summit Ridge apartments that happened just days before.

“Sometimes small things can be tremendous in solving this case,” said Sgt. Cliff Billingsley with the Florence Police Department.

The department’s big break came from a picture of Terry’s car which investigators say had also been spotted near the apartment complex after the break-in.

Police say tips from the public played a crucial role in this arrest.

“We are confident the person who committed this crime has been identified and is now in custody, the investigation is not over, but we are confident the evidence we collected is sufficient to bring about a guilty verdict,” said Florence Police Chief Ron Tyler.

Terry is charged with sexual assault, burglary, and theft of property.
