MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -- A woman died Thursday morning after being hit by a car while jogging in Gurley.

Debra Clark, 59, was hit by a car around 6 a.m. on Bob Stiles Road.  This is near Sharps Cove Road in northeast Madison County.

Clark died of a severe head injury.  She was running with her dog just a few miles from her home, a horse farm called Grassmere.

Clark's son, Alex Clark, said his mother loved to jog and he was comforted that she died doing something she loved.  He acknowledged, however, she took a chance by jogging in the road in what were very foggy conditions Thursday morning.

Neighbors also confirmed they saw her jogging nearly every day in the morning hours with her dogs.  The dog she was running with this morning suffered a leg injury, but survived.  A family friend took it to a veterinarian for treatment.

Alabama State Troopers and HEMSI responded.  Paramedics called in a medical helicopter, but it couldn't land due to foggy conditions.  Clark was taken to Huntsville Hospital by ambulance.

Troopers continue to investigate the incident.
