Brentwood, Tenn. – Jacksonville State freshman Troymaine Pope was named the Ohio Valley Conference co-Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.
In his Jacksonville State debut, Pope had 14 carries for 65 yards on the ground to lead the Gamecock rushing attack, while also scoring the Gamecocks’ first touchdown of the 2012 season.
Pope caught a 19-yard touchdown reception midway through the first quarter the very first time he touched the ball in a JSU uniform to tie the game at 7-7 at No. 10 Arkansas on Saturday. The former Anniston High School product finished with 84 all-purpose yards and averaged 4.6 yards per rush against the Razorbacks.
The Gamecocks return home on Saturday to host Chattanooga at 6 p.m. at Burgess-Snow Field.
