This position is specialized work in receiving, processing and dispatching calls for service for police, fire and medical emergencies, and non-emergencies from the Huntsville Madison County 911 Center.
This work involves the responsibility for operating a multi-channel two-way radio system; computer system, receiving phone calls, and performing related clerical tasks.
Position requires fast, efficient and accurate receiving of information, dispatching and processing of calls and messages to and from Police and Fire personnel, and other City personnel, as required. Calls and messages include routine reports, request for information and those requiring emergency actions by Police and Fire Personnel. All work performed is in accordance with established rules and regulations.
High School graduate or GED required. Must successfully complete and retain certification for Emergency Fire Dispatch through the National Academy of Dispatch Protocols. Possess the required educational level or its equivalent in order to perform and comprehend the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Police Dispatcher must be willing to work irregular hours, extended hours, weekends and holidays, at time with little or no notice.
