TONEY, Ala. (WHNT) – Firefighters battled a house fire for hours Monday evening on Scott Road in Toney.

Firefighters responded to 1098 Scott Road just after 7:00 p.m. The homeowners came home to find flames coming from inside the house. They were able to rescue a dog in the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but at the time it began there were reports of several lighting strikes in the area. The homeowners do have insurance. We are told this is not the first time they have faced disaster. Earlier this year a hailstorm forced them to replace their roof and their barn was destroyed by a tornado recently. Family members say they were able to get a computer that has historic family photos saved on the hard drive out of the house.

The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist firefighters.  No one was injured.
