JOB DESCRIPTION


An Application Administrator provides technical oversight of software systems. Normally an Application Administrator provides services on systems that affect a number of users.


Duties may include but are not limited to activities such as implementing and maintaining system security and data recovery processes, providing technical support, utilizing automation tools for delivering applications, managing assets, monitoring performance, event notifications and automating desktop support.


In addition to the technical knowledge and skills, an Application Administrator must exhibit excellent communication skills. Often working in a team environment with clients and other IT personnel, a system administrator must coordinate and communicate activities, status updates, outage notifications and schedule information.


Customer Service:
An Application Administrator must provide proactive customer-oriented service. Specifically, an Application Administrator must:


•Provide professional service within the parameters specified in the site’s service level agreement and/or that meet or exceed the customer requirements
•Respond to assigned task orders within the time allotted in the site’s service level agreement and/or that meet or exceed the customer requirements.
Technology: An Application Administrator’s main technology emphasis should be to:
•Maintain skill set required to do job
•Maintain an awareness of trends within the technology industry
•Install, configure, administer and optimize servers (hardware and operating systems)
•Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Active Directory, Oracle Solaris, UNIX, and/or LINUX Network Operating Systems
•Install, configure and maintain application servers such as Oracle Web Logic, Cold fusion, IBM Infosphere, and/or other network applications and application distribution systems.
•Design, maintain and document configuration, operating procedures and security documentation.
•Install, configure and maintain Understand, implement and properly maintain network directory services
•Ensure system security in compliance with customer policy including virus protection
•Implement and maintain network standards and guidelines
•Monitor system utilization including data storage management, performance metrics and service levels
•Ensure reliable backup and recovery of necessary data
•Develop and maintain an automated environment including reporting, event notifications and actions, software updates and service packs
•Integrate enterprise tools sets such as Remedy, CA Unicenter Network and Systems Management, Active Directory, etc.
•Perform other hardware and software tasks as assigned
Training:
•Department of Army SA/NM Level I and II Courses
•Department of Army SA/NM Level III Course
•Perl, Visual Basic, HTML and Shell scripting
•CompTIA’s Security+
•Computing Environment Certification (one or more):
­ Microsoft MCSA, MCSE
­ LINUX LPIC
­ Solaris SCSA
­ Computer Associates CA-CUSA, CA-CUSE
­ Other applicable computing environment certification.


Leadership/Direction: Activities may be directed, monitored and supervised by a more senior administrator or engineer. Selected candidate may be trusted to perform significant duties without a detailed explanation and support from a senior administrator. Will provide guidance and assistance to the lower level operators. May also assist programmers and analysts with resolving problems.
Activities:
•Perform account maintenance
•Ensure reliable backup and recovery of necessary data
•Software installations/upgrades
•Install/configure network printing devices
•Troubleshoots network communications
•Maintain and document LAN cabling plans
•Install, configure, administer and optimize servers (hardware and operating systems)
•Install, configure and maintain LAN system hardware (switches, hubs, etc.)
•Assist with maintenance of network directory services
•Interface with desktop and user support are an integral part of this role
•Maintain network system documentation
•Ensure system security in compliance with company policy including virus protection
•Install, configure and maintain network applications and application distribution systems
•Perform other hardware and software tasks as assigned
•All safety policies must be strictly adhered to


This is a Team ITSS Position with Jacobs Technology. The candidate must have 6 years relevant experience, OR 4 years relevant experience and an Associates Degree in a Technical Discipline or related field, OR 2 years relevant experience and a Bachelors Degree in a Technical Discipline or related field.
