Andy Griffith Dies At Age 86

DARE COUNTY, North Carolina - Actor Andy Griffith has died at age 86.

Emergency crews were called Griffith's home in Dare County, North Carolina on Tuesday morning.  Dare County Sheriff J.D. Doughtie confirmed to WAVY-TV that the crews went to Griffith's home, but he would not comment on the nature of the response.

Former UNC President Bill Friday confirmed that Griffith died.

Griffith’s home is located along Highway 64 in Roanoke Island near Manteo, North Carolina.

No other information is available at this time.

Griffith, 86, is most noted for his starring role in "The Andy Griffith Show" which aired on CBS from 1960-1968.  He played Sheriff Andy Taylor.

Griffith also starred in Matlock and numerous films.
