A Huntsville family is without a home after an early-morning fire erupts.

Just after 1:30 Tuesday morning firefighters responded to a call from the family in the 2400 block of Autumn Ridge Drive off Green Cove Road in Huntsville.  By the time crews arrived, flames were shooting from the home.

Instead of going into the home to extinguish the fire, crews used a surround-and-drown tactic, focusing on preventing the spread of the fire.  It took 15 firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control and another 30 minutes to knock out the remaining hot spots.

The home has heavy smoke and fire damage.  Firefighters say the home is a total loss.

Nobody was injured in the blaze, and the Red Cross is helping the adult and two teens who lived in the home.
