A Marshall County jury has found Jessie Phillips guilty of capital murder.

Phillips was on trial for the 2009 murder of his wife, Erica Phillips, at a Guntersville car wash.  She was eight weeks pregnant at the time.

Under Alabama’s Brody Law, Phillips was charged with the murders of both his wife and unborn child.

The jury will return on Tuesday at 9 a.m. for the sentencing phase.

Jurors got the case Monday afternoon.  Around 4 p.m. they sent in a question, to ask if they could read the text of the Brody Law.  The judge said no.

The defense rested its case Monday morning without calling a single witness.  Then, both sides presented closing arguments.
