A Lawrence County home burned to the ground following a Thursday night fire.  The fire started on County Road 283 around 9:30 p.m.

Courtland, North Courtland, Town Creek and Hatton Volunteer Fire Departments all responded to the scene.  The house was engulfed in flames when they got there.  Their efforts were delayed because the closest fire hydrant was a half mile away.

The firefighters mainly concentrated on dousing grass and the surrounding area to prevent the fire from spreading.  The fire was so intense they let the house burn internally.  The house is a complete loss.

The house's occupants moved out just weeks ago.  Even though they moved out, the house still had power prior to the fire.  Investigators are trying to determine if that's what caused the fire.
