Verizon Wireless announced Wednesday it is bringing its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Florence in the coming weeks. No specific date for launch has been released.

Verizon said its next-generation network will let customers using wireless devices in Florence “surf the Web, listen to music, stream live video, take advantage of thousands of applications, and stay in touch with family and friends, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than before.”

When the 4G LTE network is activated in Florence, customers in surrounding areas including Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, Russellville, Spruce Pine, Lexington and Killen will also gain access.

“The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is bringing customers a blazingly fast wireless data service that covers more than two-thirds of the nation,” said Jonathan LeCompte – president Verizon Wireless Georgia/Alabama Region. “With the 4G LTE network, customers can leverage the speed and connectivity through a variety of 4G LTE devices to connect with family, friends and colleagues, and push the boundaries of communication.”

Verizon has been rolling out its 4G LTE network across the nation in recent years – including in Huntsville and Madison County. The network is currently available to more than two-thirds of the U.S. population.
