Former Sparkman baseball player Bruce Maxwell is one step closer to achieving his dream of playing in the majors.

In the second round of the MLB Draft, the Oakland A's drafted Maxwell.  He called the offer "too good to refuse" and will forego his senior season at Birmingham Southern to play Rookie Ball.

He will play catcher but was a first baseman in high school, and says his time as a Senator and at a Division III school taught him one important lesson.
