Empty businesses are fairly common in north Alabama.  One building in Madison is the subject of this Good Question.

WHNT News 19 viewer Paul Oliver asks: "What are the plans for the Southern Family Market on the corner of Highway 72 west and Wall Triana Highway in Madison?"

In short, there are no immediate plans for the open space.

We checked with Amy Bell, Director of Community Development and Planning for the City of Madison.  She said they have been working since before the grocery store closed to recruit a business, or several businesses to the space.  Their goal is to keep retailers in Madison to provide consumers with what they want, and keep sales tax going to the city.

Bell said she thinks the size of the store may be one of the reasons they can't seem to fill the space, even though the city is working with the property owner to come up with the best retail solution for everyone.
