Stars Roll Smokies In Series Opener

To begin a five-game series at Smokies Park, the Huntsville Stars beat the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 8-4 on Monday night, The Stars were carried by a five-run second inning highlighted by a two-run double from Scooter Gennett, an RBI double by Kentrail Davis and a pair of RBI singles by Tommy Manzella and Lee Haydel. Haydel led the way offensively with four hits (all singles). On the pitching side, Stars starter Josh Stinson improved to 6-2 on the year after giving up just one run in five innings. The win for the Stars was their fifth in their last six games.

Game two of a five-game series will begin on Tuesday as the Stars will send RHP Evan Anundsen (3-1. 2.55 ERA) to the mound to square off against RHP Nick Struck (4-5, 4.86 ERA). First pitch is at 6:15 CT.

Before the game, the Milwaukee Brewers and Huntsville Stars made a roster move. Outfielder Jay Gibbons has been promoted to Triple-A Nashville.

Gibbons was batting .316 (24-76) with eight doubles and 10 RBIs. He drew 13 walks and struck out 10 times in 24 games with the Stars.

There is no corresponding move, leaving the Stars active roster at 24, one below the Southern League limit.
