A sex offender roundup initiated last month yields a warrant for a northwest Huntsville man.  However, the arrest took longer than expected and involved several agencies.

Madison County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals surrounded a home at the intersection of Niblick Avenue and Greenside Drive on Tuesday morning.  At first, the man inside refused to come to the door.

Investigators got a search warrant and the Huntsville SWAT team broke inside after a standoff that lasted a little over an hour.  They arrested 43-year-old Maurice Hewlett.

Hewlett is listed as "non-compliant" on the Department of Public Safety's Registered Sex Offender web site.  He was convicted of second-degree rape in 1994.

Police arrested a second person on unrelated pending warrants.  No one was injured.

The standoff came just days after police were involved in another unrelated standoff with John Patrick Dudley.  He is suspected of committing numerous robberies.  That standoff happened Sunday evening, and lasted about four hours.

WHNT News 19 spoke with several people in the neighborhood off-camera.  They said they are ready for things to calm down.
