Auburn softball’s game time for its NCAA Austin Regional opener against Houston has been changed to a 1 p.m. CT start on Friday, May 18. The game was initially set for a 7 p.m. start.

Auburn (33-21) will face Houston (34-22) for the first time in program history. The Cougars posted a 15-9 record in Conference USA this season. Houston comes into the Regional having won five of its last six games.

The Cougars’ Holly Anderson posted a team-best .374 batting average and was 19-for-24 in stolen bases, which trailed only Ashleigh Jones on the squad. Jones was 22-of-24 on the base paths this season. Haley Outon led Houston with 63 RBI and 22 home runs. Houston hit .312 as a team this season and out-scored opponents 289-174.

Houston’s pitching staff had a 2.76 ERA, allowing 142 earned runs in 360.1 innings. Bailey Watts led the staff with a 15-8 record and a 2.28 ERA. Watts allowed 131 hits, 74 walks and struck out 139 in 153.2 innings of work.

The second seed in the Austin Regional, Auburn is making its first trip to the State of Texas since the 2008 season when the Tigers appeared in the NCAA College Station Regional on the campus of Texas A&M.

The trip will be a homecoming for three Auburn players. Senior pitcher Jenee Loree was born in Austin, while junior Brooke Lathan is from Livingston. Lathan also played for the University of Houston from 2010-11 before transferring to Auburn this season. Sophomore Maris Medina is from San Antonio.

The Longhorns are the top seed in the Austin Regional and are the No. 6 national seed. Texas will play fourth-seed Northwestern at 4 p.m. Friday.  While Friday’s schedule changed, the times for Saturday and Sunday remain unchanged.
