Loretta Spencer (February 2012)

Loretta Spencer has launched a new website in her campaign to become Huntsville’s mayor once again.

Her website, Lorettaspencerformayor.com, details her stances on issues and explains why she decided to run again.

“We, as a city, didn’t get here by accident or by the actions of a few years. Huntsville is where it is now because of the tireless efforts of decades of solid leadership and comprehensive vision, something we now lack,” Spencer said.

“I have often said I would only run again if I felt the support for my candidacy was both diverse and committed,” Spencer went on to say. “Over the last three years, citizens have encouraged me to run again. I appreciate the opportunity to offer the voters a clear choice.”

Spencer served as Huntsville’s mayor from 1996 to 2008. She ran unsuccessfully for re-election in 2008, losing to current Mayor Tommy Battle.

On the Issues page of her website, Spencer says her campaign will focus on seven areas:

  • Jobs and the Economy
  • Responsible Budget and Taxes
  • Roads and Infrastructure
  • Education
  • Quality of Life
  • Public Safety and Services
  • Past, Present & Future

Tommy Battle kicked off his campaign earlier this month.  Jackie Reed is also running for mayor.  The election is August 28.
