The Gulf South Conference champion University of North Alabama men’s golf team placed three individuals on the 2012 All-GSC squad and UNA’s Stuart Clark was named GSC Coach of the Year for the second time in three years.
UNA seniors Jake Greer and Ty Chandler and junior Ricky Stimets were all selected for first-team All-GSC honors after leading the Lions through an incredible spring campaign that saw UNA win five of the six tournaments that the Lions competed in.
Greer, from Birmingham, Ala., earned All-GSC honors for the fourth consecutive year. He was second-team All-GSC as a freshman in 2009 and has been a first-team selection each of the last three years. Greer is ranked eighth nationally among all Division II golfers this season and has a 71.63 stroke average for 2011-12.
Chandler, from Stafford, Va., is a first-team All-GSC pick for the second straight year. He has a 71.0 stroke average, is ranked second nationally among all Division II golfers and is 43rd nationally among all collegiate golfers. Stimets, a native of Paxton, Mass., earned his first All-GSC honors. Stimets is ranked 54th in Division II and has a 73.1 stroke average.
Clark earned GSC Coach of the Year honors for the second time after leading UNA to its third GSC golf title in the last four years.
UNA will play in the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional in Conover, N.C., on May 7-9. The Lions will enter the tournament ranked No. 4 in the nation in the Golf World/Nike Top 25 poll.
