For the 10th consecutive season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team has been selected to participate in the 2012 NCAA Division II Softball Championships as announced by the NCAA Division II Softball Committee on Monday morning. The Chargers will own the No. 5 seed in the NCAA South Region portion of the tournament.

The Chargers will join three other schools at the South 1 Region site in Valdosta, Ga., where top-seeded Valdosta State will host Miles along with the 4/5 matchup of UAH and No. 4 seed Rollins.

The other four teams will meet at the South 2 Region site in Tampa, Fla., as No. 2 seed Tampa will host No. 3 Barry, No. 6 Florida Southern, and seventh-seeded West Alabama.

UAH – who split earlier this season with the Tars – will open up tournament play at 3:30 p.m. CDT on Friday against Rollins. The winner of the contest will advance to play at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of VSU and Miles, while the losers of the two games will play at 3 p.m.

The two winners of the two regional sites will meet in the NCAA South Super Regional for the chance to advance to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championships.
