In the final game of a five-game series with the Jackson Generals and a ten-game homestand overall, the Huntsville Stars lost by a score of 8-1 at Joe Davis Stadium early Tuesday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Generals was starting pitcher Danny Hultzen, who improved to 2-2 on the season after shutting down the Stars offense through 5.2 innings. The second overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft only gave up two hits while striking out five in the process. On offense, third basemen Fernando Martinez, shortstop Chris Franklin and left fielder Chris Pettit each had three hits apiece for Jackson. For Huntsville, they scored their only run in the ninth inning when third baseman Matt Cline walked with the bases loaded full of Stars.
The Stars will travel to Pearl, Mississippi tomorrow to start off a five-game series on the road against the Mississippi Braves (Double-A Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves). Huntsville will send LHP Dan Merklinger to the mound (0-1, 5.79 ERA) against a Braves starter that is still to be announced. First pitch is at 7:00 PM.
