Guntersville High School Mourns Loss Of Young Student Athlete

Monday was the first day of classes for students at Guntersville High School following the tragic death of 11th grader Kevin Yoder who died in a wreck Friday night while en route to a track meeting in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Yoder was a member of both the football and track teams. Monday his teammates meet on the practice field and held a prayer vigil for their fallen teammate.

Inside the school, councilors from local organizations were on hand throughout the day, and student wrote letters to the Yoder family.

Kevin's desk in his English class sat empty covered in notes and flowers Monday.

WHNT News 19 has learned Yoder was killed after the car he was in hydroplaned on slick roads, causing the driver to lose control.  The other teens and the parent are being treated at a Memphis hospital.

A funeral will be held in Ohio Wednesday with a memorial service to follow at some point in Guntersville.
