Family Remembers Woman Killed On Highway 43 In Greenhill
An 89-year-old woman died Tuesday morning after being hit by a pickup truck along U.S. Highway 43 in Greenhill.
Her whole family called her “Aunt Jo”. At even though she was 89 years old, Wilsford still had a youthful spirit.
“She was a fireball. That`s about the best way to put it,” said Ricky Odem, Wilsford’s nephew.
She didn't have kids of her own so Wilsford opened up her home and her heart, to help.
“Pretty much like my mom more than my aunt,” said Odem. She pretty much raised me, you know, so yeah, I`m gonna miss everything.”
Now Odem holds on to his precious memories.
“We sat up three hours this morning talking before she went to work,” said Odem.
With such a spark for life, her family says Wilsford didn't have much down time. She worked six days a week at the Greenhill Florist Shop. Family says it was a job she loved and a job where no task was too big.
“She was one of the best, she worked hard all around the clock,” remembered Odem.
Wilsford's co-workers at the flower store say she volunteered to pick up the mail Tuesday morning even though the rain was coming. According to police, Wilsford probably didn't see the truck along Highway 43, as she tried to cross the road.
It didn't take long for the news of such a tragic accident to spread through the small town. Wilsford's nephew got the call just minutes after she was hit.
“Yeah it was bad, you know, it hurt,” said Odem.
It was an unexpected death for Josephine Wilsford’s family, but her family says they will always remember the way "Aunt Jo" lived.
Troopers say the driver of the truck did not have time to react. That driver will not face any charges.
The accident happened at 8:20 Tuesday morning. Wilsford died at the scene.
Wilsford lived in St. Joseph, Tennessee.
