Lions Fall At Freed-Hardeman

The University of North Alabama jumped out to a 4-0 lead but faltered later as Freed-Hardeman rallied for a 9-5 win over the Lions. The loss drops UNA, ranked No. 19 in the NCAA Division II, to 31-12 overall. Freed-Hardeman, ranked No. 19 nationally in the NAIA, improved to 32-17.

UNA got four runs in the top of the first inning but Freed-Hardeman came right back with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. After Freed-Hardeman tied the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, UNA went back on top with a run in the seventh. FHU tiied the game in the bottom of the seventh, then scored four more in the eighth for the win.

Brantley Claunch (5-1) took the loss for UNA, givig up five runs on three hits over two and 1/3 innings of relief. UNA starter Andrew Hillis pitched 5 1/3, allowing four runs on eight hits.

Josh Carpenter, Drew Humphrey and Josh Doyle had two hits each for UNA and Michael Schmidt hit his seventh home run of the season.

UNA hosts New Orleans Saturday and Sunday in its final Gulf South Conference home series of the season.
