Stars starting pitcher Tyler Thornburg sent down the first 22 batters he faced to lead Huntsville to their second straight win over Tennessee Smokies by a score of 5-2.
Before giving up his first and only hit to Smokies RF Mike Burgess, the 23-year-old righty was perfect through 7.1 innings, striking out 11 in the process. He was taken out of the game immediately after giving up the hit. For Thornburg, the win was his first at the Double-A level, as he improved to 1-0 on the season. On offense, Stars second basemen Scooter Gennett had a career night as well, going 3-for-4 with two homeruns and five runs batted in.
The Stars will try to win their 3rd straight in a row at “The Joe” by sending RHP Evan Anundsen to the mound (0-0, 2.57 ERA) to face off against Smokies RHP Dallas Beeler (0-0, 1.64 ERA). First pitch is slated for 6:43 PM.
