State Troopers Investigating Lawrence County Wreck As Traffic Homicide

A two car wreck that happened Friday just before midnight in Lawrence County is now being investigated by state troopers as a traffic homicide.

The wreck happened on Highway 24 at the intersection on County Road 217. Troopers say a car attempted turn off Highway 24 onto County Road 217 and was rear-ended by a pickup. The car ended up in a ditch and the truck in the median.

The driver of the truck and two people in the car were taken to different hospitals by private vehicles but were treated and released. 14-year-old Chelsea Motes, a passenger sitting in the rear seat of the car was critically injured. She was transported to Parkway Medical Hospital by ambulance. then air-lifted to Huntsville Hospital where she died.
