Auburn Holds First Spring Practice In Pads
Monday was the first day in pads for the Auburn football team as it underwent its third practice session of 2012 spring drills. The two-hour morning workout included individual and position drills, special team run-throughs and some position-by-position and team scrimmage periods outdoors.
“I thought today was ok. I’d like to have seen a little bit more physicality early in practice. They picked it up at the end. When we were full tackle, it picked up some then. We’re trying to develop a physical mentality that we need, but we’re a ways off,” Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said after his squad’s first full-contact session of the spring.
“The effort was good most of the day – the physicality was ok at best. It wasn’t a problem; it’s just something that needs to be brought to their attention to be better Wednesday.
“It’s not that they don’t want to do it; there are just a lot of thought processes going on. What we’re looking for is, if you’re going to make that mistake, make sure you make it playing a physical brand of football. The physicality of the game is the number one thing. ”
The Tigers return to the practice field Wednesday morning at 8:30 CT. All practices are closed to the public, with the exception of the A-Day spring game Saturday, April 14.
